Deforestration rates for Solomon Islands 2000-2016

Solomon Islands deforestation rate have been documented as part of the UNREDD + process. Data for five provinces show the current deforestation rate. The accurate measuring of deforestation over time is essential for the better management of Solomon Islands natural resources , improved policy and the achievement of Solomon Islands international commitment to the CBD and to achieve national objectives under SDG 15 life on land.

The highest rate is in Malaita province with the lowest rate being recorded in Choiseul. More work needs to be done because information were not available for three provinces. Ministry of Environment will use these information to inform our environment management plans for the respective provinces.
