This publication is a companion piece to Island Innovations—UNDP and GEF: Leveraging Environment and Energy
for the Sustainable Development of SIDS, a joint UNDP and GEF (Global Environment Facility) book launched at the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States, 2014.
The handbook is a joint publication of Environment Canada and the University of Joensuu – United Nations Environment Programme Course on International Environmental Law-making and Diplomacy. Environment Canada initiated this project and provided core contributions for the main text. UNEP generously provided the glossary, as well as expert advice on the handbook as a whole.
This policy applies to SPREP’s own data as well as data held by SPREP on behalf of government agencies and partners within the Pacific.
The purpose of this policy is to:
• encourage the free exchange of data with other government agencies and partners within the Pacific and with the public in the Pacific and beyond
• promote the benefits of data sharing, and its links to good governance, accountability, public participation and the rule of law
This summary of all current literature on violence against women in the pacific region, is designed to give practitioners a concise and comprehensive overview of current knowledge and analysis. The evidence presented in this first edition presents a compelling case for more action and investment in preventing and responding to violence against women. It is intended to inform leaders, legislators, policy makers and other key decision makers in government and programme designers in government and civil society.

The 43rd edition, the Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2012 (Key Indicators 2012) continues to provide a set of comprehensive social, economic, financial, environmental, and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) indicator series for the 48 regional members. The Key Indicators provides a timely and reliable source of data and information for policy makers, development practitioners, government officials, researchers, students, and the general public. For the second year, the Framework of Inclusive Growth Indicators supplements the main Key Indicators publication.
This
paper presents the findings from the first comprehensive study of pooling initiatives in the
Pacific. It draws on a review of the literature pertaining to all 20 pooling initiatives identified in
the region, and on interviews of stakeholders involved in many of those initiatives. The study
finds that experience with pooling among Pacific SIDS has not met the optimistic expectations
of advocates, including development partners. This is the result of the challenges inherent in
Papers, case studies, research results and conversations about rapid urbanisation in the Pacific and the hopes, experiences and adjustments people make to living in town. Publication of this issue was supported by the State, Society and Governance in Melanesia Program (SSGM) at the Australian National University. SSGM is the leading international centre for applied multidisciplinary research and analysis concerning contemporary state, society and governance issues in Melanesia and the broader Pacific.

Proposed Project Objective: Enhanced use of data for decision making in the environment sector throughout the Pacific region. Building on the tools and momentum the Inform project established, this scaled up project will expand the user base and fill significant gaps including in situ monitoring, increased partnerships between the environment ministries and other ministries, increase use of spatial tools, and the establishment of standardise environmental standards and key indicators for key resources.
The strategy will guide the MECDM to address environment issues and promote better livelihoods for the country.
As an environmental policy framework with strategic directions, the NEMS has the potential to strengthen partnerships within sectors and provide opportunities for funding support from donor partners. The NEMS is a sign of commitment by MECDM to ensure national development targets and sector planning activities are carried out coherently, and promote environmental sustainability
